Guatelinda Tienda Mural

DSC_0023

We tried a local Guatemalan restaurant, Guatelinda Cocina, and there is a store next door (Guatelinda Tienda) that had this mural painted on the wall between them.

Great food, by the way.

Font Fail?

DSC_0006

When they were picking the font to use for "Heating", did anyone stop to think that people would see this and think "vampire" instead? And that is WAY more "blood" red than "heat" red, in my humble opinion.

I mean, seriously, couldn't you picture a "Dracula" movie poster with that font and color?

Kudos on the "cooling" font though!

Sunshade Season again

DSC_0025

Spring is melting away into summer here in central Oklahoma, and the sunshades are starting to show up in car windows again.

Ghost Dog

Before the picture, I would like to announce that this is my 1000th post to this blog. If, back in January of 2007, when I started this journey, you had told me that I would still be posting in May of 2010 and posting my 1000th picture (and posting it from my home in Oklahoma City), I would have seriously questioned your sanity.

So, without further ado, here it is!!

DSC_0006

This is a picture I took of Baxter while he was in my lap. I had accidentally left the camera set to disabled flash, leading to a very long exposure. As is often the case, this accident left me with a far superior picture to the one I took immediately following with the flash:

Pat Steinberg -- Jockey Extordinare...

DSC_0021

Another statue at Remington Park. This guy was, at the time of his death in 1993, the winningest jockey ever at Remington Park.

The statue sits in a shaded area adjacent to the big Winner's Circle at the track.

Jockeys

At Remington Park in Oklahoma City, there is a line of these Jockey statues, representing the colors of the winners of the Oklahoma derby from 1994 to 2006.

ABC Wednesday - R is for Rough

Rough

There is a great book of selected early writings by Theodore Geisel (aka, Dr. Seuss) named Tough Coughs as He Ploughs the Dough. One of the short stories involves the intensive complexity of the English language when it comes to certain letter groups, for example ough. Each of the the ough words in the title are pronounced differently from any of the others.

Not that this has anything to do with the picture, other than the fact that I'm expressing roughness. While this is merely a section of a rock wall at my office, it could be thought of as a view of a piece of sand paper through a magnifying glass.

Block party -- face painting

DSC_0017

Our neighborhood had a party last night (well timed, the one evening without rain for a stretch).

They had face painting.

A good time was had by all!

New Foster Dog -- Cassie

DSC_0003

Cassie's story isn't as nice as Buddy's. She's our first girl foster. She was sold to the rescue by her owner, who didn't want her because she wasn't being easy to breed this heat cycle, and the breeder just didn't want the hassle.

Judging on the condition of her teeth, we think she is at least 5 years old at this point. She needs some serious dental work, which she will get as she is spayed on Monday.

I'm baaack! -- sorry I've been slacking so much. Work, sick, needed a small break, blah, blah, blah.

While I was gone, we picked up not one, but 2 new fosters. The first one is Buddy. Buddy is a roughly 2 year old Maltese-Yorkie mix, aka, a "morkie". We won't have him long -- he's got the sweetest personality, and when his hair grows out a little, he's going to be a very handsom little boy.

Buddy was surrendered by his owner because they had him and 4 females, and wanted to take a break from breeding.

ABC Wednesdays -- P is for Papillion-Poodle Pooch.

DSC_0001

Clementine is our little supermodel. She is actually the featured (page 28 and 29) example of a Papi-Poo in Designer Dogs: Portraits and Profiles of Popular New Crossbreeds by Caroline Coile.

Not something you see every day

DSC_0009

I work a couple of miles from an Air Force base, so I see odd stuff in the air from time to time, but this one seemed very strange. It's not obvious here, but the planes were flying at exactly the same level, and kept the same speed all the way to the horizon.

Hi and bye to Jonas

We only got to foster this guy for a couple of days -- he is off to his new home today.
