A very crooked (but not the crookedest) street

Crooked Street

This is Lombard Street. Lombard is often referred to as the crookedest street in the world, when, in fact, it isn't even the crookedest in San Francisco (that would be Vermont, between 19th and 21st street).

It is beautiful though

  1. Thanks for the correction; I always thought this held the honour. Do you have a photo of the other?? Would love to see it. Your weather looks much milder than ours; 10 inch snowfall yesterday. Sigh!

  3. Alas, Vermont is not as photogenic as Lombard. It is very tree-lined and there isn't any vantage point that will show the switchbacks.

Look at Vermont Street at Google Maps

  4. Looking at the enlarged photo I see at least two people there with cameras. It looks very steep which wouldn't do for me these days.

  5. Lombard St, I must have taken at least two dozen photos there. The steps, the bougainvilleas, the cool smart cars and scooters zipping through :)... The tourists :(... Nah, just kidding.

Love that street and that neighborhood.

I saw your photo on the portal, looks like you're one of us now. Welcome to the wonderful world of CDPB and have fun! :)

  6. I personally do not agree that Vermont is more crooked than Lombard. I can see that Vermont is not as uniform but from the looks of it the switch backs on Lombard are noticeably tighter. I've driven down Lombard many times. I need to check this section of Vermont out.

    Thanks,

    Don.
