My wife and her buddy attended the Cyndy Lauper "True Colors" concert at the Greek Theater in Berkeley tonight.

Cultures meet at the Fil-Am Festival

We took Austin to the Monterey Bay Aquarium yesterday. Among the many exhibits, there is a large display of various types of Jellyfish.

We took the grandson to the Zoo today. While visiting the Sumatran Tiger, we caught her in a yawn. Look at the size of that tongue!!

Indiana Tater

My grandson is visiting, and in our effort to follow traditional grandparent roles (aka, spoiling rotten), we bought him one of the new "Indiana Jones" themed Mr. Potato Heads.

Cadillac Ranch - Amarillo

Since I just got home last night, I'm going to be posting a few of the 1700+ pics we took while on the road until I can get back into the swing of things.

This is Cadillac Ranch, an art exhibit between exits 60 and 62 on I-40 outside of Amarillo, TX.

Home at last...

14 days.

11 states (California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada) including 2 (Wyoming and Utah) that Caryn had never been to before.

1716 pictures.

We saw giant crosses, big holes in the ground, huge rocks, gorgeous mountains. We saw 4 generations of our family, attended a wedding, got invited to another one.

I shot a gun and walked on the same place where the world land speed record was set.

And now, we are home.

We went through the Bonneville Salt Flats today. This was a nice reflection shot.

Wyoming

We traveled through Wyoming, from Cheyenne to Evanston today.

Stark, wind-swept plains with a few interesting mountain features.

This picture kinda says it all.

Tomorrow is Utah (including a 40 mile stretch of the salt flats) and Nevada, which Wikipedia describes as "largely desolate and mountainous"

Clayton shot this one right after we crossed over the Kansas/Colorado border.

Muzzle Flash

My brother took Clayton and I to a gun range to shoot a couple of interesting guns. I managed to catch Clayton's shot including the muzzle flash.

Check out the closeup -- you can make out the bullet's path trough the flash and even the gun powder residue as it flys up and away from the flash

June Theme Day -- The Shop Around the Corner

This is a shot of the Walmart Neighborhood Market near my mom's house in OKC. We are visiting here for my niece's wedding (last night).

Of course, there is a huge debate on the merits of Walmart going on in this country, and I really don't want to get in to it. I will say, the WNM came in after the locally owned grocery stores abandoned this area. The store is clean, well stocked, and has fairly decent prices. I'm not going to try to justify the way they treat their staff, though I will say that they provided good starter positions for my step-son and daughter-in-law.

That said, this is a San Francisco blog, so I should point out that my own favorite neighborhood market is Trader Joe's
