A wave starts breaking...

wave starts breaking

I went out on the Pacifica Pier and shot this directly above the breaking point of the wave.

Clement Street Dojo

Dojo on Clement

Clement street is a microcosm of every kind of culture you can imagine, all smooshed together in about a 1 mile strip. You can find some of the best Dim Sum in the city, Green Apple Books (from yesterday's pic), Irish Pubs, Japanese Bubble Drink shops, Hawaiian barbeque, Russian knickknacks, and a relatively famous French bistro.

The sign on this Dojo caught my eye.

The DeYoung rises above the park

Taken from the roof of UCSF Med Center. That square-ish building rising above the park is the DeYoung museum.

Oscar Showcase

Movie Pass

Today, Caryn and I (along with a select group of friends) went to AMC's "Oscar Showcase". This is an all day event screening all 5 of the best picture nominees one after the other. As I write this, we have sucessfully navigated Milk (10:30am), The Reader, and Benjamin Button. Next is Slumdog Millionaire, with Frost / Nixon last, starting at 9:45pm.

Yesterday's rainbow in whole form...

rainbow

This is a panoramic stitch of 3 pictures, and it gives just a hint of awesome that rainbow was. Sorry if I'm boring, but it was just so amazing...

Rainbow at the marina

DSC_0001

As a coworker was leaving, he ran back in to tell me that I needed to grab my camera and come outside.

I had to run to my car and get my camera, or this would have even been better. It was SO bright and full.

Rest in Peace, Dear Sandy...

Sandy Roberts

Sandy Roberts died today. She was a very sweet lady who always strived to be friends with everyone around her. She raised her family, and in her later years, adopted 4 shelter dogs.

We will miss you dearly Sandy.

Conversation Hearts

conversation hearts

Caryn told me I couldn't come home from the grocery store without some conversation hearts. I ended up getting 2 packages -- on in English, one in Spanish.

Our fluffy white visitor

Fluffy visitor

Troy is a 10-month old bichon visiting us for a couple of days.

Cute, ain't he.

I'm hoping to get a picture of him between Clem and Ziggy -- I'll call it Oreo dogs!

BART Sign in the clouds

BART Sign

I find this picture to have a very painting-like or drawing-like quality. I think it is the messed-up perspective on the sign.

If you look at the original picture (click on the picture, click on "All Sizes" and goto "Original"), it looks more genuine.

Very curious...

Me ... in glasses

me in glasses

Ok, forgive me a small indulgence. To be fair, this is something like the 2nd or 3rd time in the entire life of this blog that the subect of the picture has been myself.

I found myself having what I described on Facebook as an "old eye" day. For some reason, age-related far-sightedness is kicking my butt today. I can barely read my watch, let alone manuals or notes, without my reading glasses.

Glider above me

Glider above me

Today was, it seems, a perfect day (wind wise) for hang gliding off of Fort Funston. They have a great deck there for observing and taking pictures, and I've used it before (see the best picture of last year on January 1, 2009).

Unfortunately, shortly after this picture was taken, I heard a news story about a paraglider who's body was discovered off the coast not too far from this point.

Surgical Wing

Presidio Building

The oldest standing building on the Presidio (making it one of the oldest standing buildings in all of San Francisco, second only to Mission Dolores) is the old Post Hospital, built in 1864. The cannon shot from a week or so ago was from the front of this building.

This portion of the building was the original surgical wing.

Clemmy in Black & White...

clemmy-bw

Ok, she's a black dog with white streaks. So, why do you suppose she looks different in B&W versus color?

Venus and the Moon

Venus and moon

Aw, I wish I had the equipment to do astrophotography (of course, I also wish I lived somewhere where I could get away with astrophotography -- light pollution wise).

In the meantime, this is the best I can do. The two brightest objects in the night time sky in proximity to each other.
