My step-sons' grandfather passed away today.

JD was a kind, honest, hard working man. He was a father figure of extraordinary maturity and wisdom to my step-sons and his other grandchildren. He and his marvelous wife Judy have always treated Caryn and myself as nothing less than family.

He fought to protect his country with distinction, then came home and raised his family with the same level of love and dedication.

Many people are deeply saddened today, and the reason is simple -- JD touched a lot of lives in a very positive manner.

I'm forgoing a picture today in his memory.

It's the model that we bought when my wife and I took my mother on an Alaska Cruise in 2005.

Stairs Mosaic

At 16th and Moraga in San Francisco, this stair case climbs up the hill. The mosaic is beautiful, and, as you can see below, quite detailed.
