Pacifica 9/11 Memorial Garden

In Pacifica, there is this nice little, out of the way park, just off of HWY 1, that leads between the water recycling plant and the Rockaway complex. In this park, a nice older Irish gentleman named Herb has created these little pockets of beauty. This one is a memorial to the victims of 9/11.

Mossy Stream

There is a very fine line between pride and conceit, and I really don't want to cross that line, but, honestly, I love this photo.

Finding the shot was a truly lucky happenstance. On a whim, I stopped and walked down a trail. The trail led to a small quiet beach with a small stream emptying into the ocean. I took about 30 pictures, some of which will be inhabiting my blog over the next few days.

I'm also changing the way I license the pictures. Under a creative commons license, you'll be able to view these pictures in a larger format on the Flickr site (click on the picture, then click on the little icon above the picture that says "All Sizes" to see).

We recently purchased some military grade MRE (Meals, ready to eat) for our earthquake kit. They come with flameless, chemical heaters as pictured above.

Two for Tuesday...

I almost didn't put this picture up. Then I looked at it quite carefully.

The spiderweb, the contrast between the shiny leaf and the little white flower... it's actually a pretty good shot.

The other one is a gimme. Just too good of a Clementine picture to ignore.

My super-talented wife has been making homemade cards for years. Recently, she picked up some more techniques and tools and she made this card for one of her good friends.

Actually, it really is a good sign. Panting is a form of coping with the stress. This is better than running, hiding, etc.

Scrapbookin'

Sorry about the "Placeholder" post before -- I had bad internet where I was and that was all I could do to get a post in before I turned into a pumpkin...

So, now you see the replacement post -- a picture of my beautiful wife (in the blue) and her buddies scrapbooking at a local scrapbooking supply store. They were there till nearly midnight, cropping and sticking and die-cuttin'

Yep, I got nailed by a red-light camera in San Francisco. This is going to cost me $400.90 (the fine) + $32 (the administrative fee to allow me to take traffic school to keep it off my insurance) + $25 (Traffic school itself).

If I'm going to pay damn near $500 for these pictures, I'm gonna post them!!

This is an Enigma machine that I actually got to touch.

I went to the RSA conference today, and at the NSA booth, they had a series of exhibits on Cryptography.

This particular machine was a Luftwaffe version made in 1943.
