Ice/Sleet/Snow Storm, Day 2

A dime has a diameter of about 1/2", so that means we got a little over 1/4" of ice.

Ice Storm

Well, the moon was right. Abour 3 hours of freezing rain, followed by another 4 or so sleet. Snow is next and should run all night and into tomorrow.

ABC Wednesday -- B is for Bad Weather

Folklore says that a ring around the moon predicts the onset of unsettled weather, especially in the winter. Given that the forecast for Thursday is calling for record amounts of freezing rain, sleet, and snow, I'd say that the ring isn't lying.

Self Portrait in Safety Coin

Each year, our company presents us with a military-type "challenge" coin to serve as a constant reminder of the overarching importance of safety in an organization such as ours (an electric utility).

This year's coin is very shiny, and when I looked down at it, I caught a slight reflection of myself in the middle of the coin. Whip out the blackberry, angle things to get my face in the coin a bit more, and voilà ..

The car wasn't moving on the highway on my way home from work. I had the camera in the seat next to me, so I reached over and took a quick shot out the window.

The car got SO dirty with all the salt and dirt, and today was the first day that we could really get it washed.

The Geothermal Unit WORKS!!

Last summer we retrofitted this 85 year old house with a geothermal heat pump and central heat and air.

As you can see, it works!

Our first chance to spend some time with Austin since the big Christmas blizzard. We put on the Peanuts Christmas Special (which we had Tivo'ed), and Clem just jumped in to the chair and started watching with him.

OKC Rises on a cold winter morning -- part 2

There are a BUNCH of elements in this pic that sing to me -- the depth of field, the muted and yet vibrant colors, the way the eye is drawn from quadrant to quadrant. Expect to see this one on New Year's Day's "best of" post.

OKC Rises on a cold winter morning -- part 1

Sorry for the whole "Placeholder" thing. Our internet is down at the house, so I had to muscle my way though trying to edit the blog on the wife's iPhone, which proved daunting (especially since I really didn't have a good pic for the day).

Travelling down the road, I looked up and saw this. From the middle of a pretty consistent cloud pattern, this hole in the cloud -- a stingray in the sky.
