Clement Street Dojo
Clement street is a microcosm of every kind of culture you can imagine, all smooshed together in about a 1 mile strip. You can find some of the best Dim Sum in the city, Green Apple Books (from yesterday's pic), Irish Pubs, Japanese Bubble Drink shops, Hawaiian barbeque, Russian knickknacks, and a relatively famous French bistro.
The sign on this Dojo caught my eye.

Oscar Showcase
Today, Caryn and I (along with a select group of friends) went to AMC's "Oscar Showcase". This is an all day event screening all 5 of the best picture nominees one after the other. As I write this, we have sucessfully navigated Milk (10:30am), The Reader, and Benjamin Button. Next is Slumdog Millionaire, with Frost / Nixon last, starting at 9:45pm.

Me ... in glasses
Ok, forgive me a small indulgence. To be fair, this is something like the 2nd or 3rd time in the entire life of this blog that the subect of the picture has been myself.
I found myself having what I described on Facebook as an "old eye" day. For some reason, age-related far-sightedness is kicking my butt today. I can barely read my watch, let alone manuals or notes, without my reading glasses.

Glider above me
Today was, it seems, a perfect day (wind wise) for hang gliding off of Fort Funston. They have a great deck there for observing and taking pictures, and I've used it before (see the best picture of last year on January 1, 2009).
Unfortunately, shortly after this picture was taken, I heard a news story about a paraglider who's body was discovered off the coast not too far from this point.

Surgical Wing
The oldest standing building on the Presidio (making it one of the oldest standing buildings in all of San Francisco, second only to Mission Dolores) is the old Post Hospital, built in 1864. The cannon shot from a week or so ago was from the front of this building.
This portion of the building was the original surgical wing.
