February Theme Day: When people think of my city, they think of . . .

Foggy Bridge

I chose this picture for the theme because it combines 2 of the big items people think about when they think of San Francisco -- fog and the Golden Gate Bridge.

The City Daily Photoblogs sponsors a monthly theme day. The following blog also registered that they would be posting to this theme on this day:

BOB: South Tower -- OOPS!!

BOB: South Tower

A nice view of the Big Orange Bridge's south tower, as taken from Lincoln road in the Presidio.

Oops. It turns out that I already posted a picture from this same exact spot.

So, as an offer of contrition -- here's another picture -- this one of Lands End taken from a spot about 1/4 of a mile from the previous shot.

December Theme Day -- Bridges

GGB

I'm not a member of the "City Daily Photo Blogs" yet, but I've applied. These guys do a theme picture on the first day of each month, and for December, it's "Bridges".

Here's mine.

That's BOB (Big Orange Bridge, or, as most people know it, the Golden Gate Bridge) in the background.

58,000 gallons of oil

Oil in water

Went with my cousin and her husband sightseeing around town. We ended up down at Fort Point. The rocks were chained off and this sign was up.

Expect several more shots from today in the days to come.

Wednesday pic...

I'm pretty regularly in the Sunset district of SF on Wednesdays. Once I'm done with my appointment, I like to head into some of the more photographic parts of the city for the pic of the day.

Today, I was driving through the Presidio when I came across this view.

There will be a few more pics as the days pass from this trip -- look for the surfer going down on Ocean Beach tomorrow!

My first OOB photoshops...

A user on Flickr named Serrator wrote a very good tutorial on how to create an Out of Bounds (OOB) picture in Photoshop. Using that tutorial, I was able to crank out these 2 pictures in less than an hour.

It's fun, and you can create some pretty interesting stuff with the technique. Check out the OOB Flickr Group for some ideas of what some of the more creative folks are doing with this technique.

BOB in the background...

Taken yesterday (sorry -- no pictures at all today) at Fort Funston. I like the fact that even though it is a very small part of this picture, the presence of BOB (Big Orange Bridge, aka The Golden Gate Bridge) in the far, far background makes the picture seem much cooler than it would be without it.

Cruising out...

I saw this cruise ship leaving the port while I was in SF today, so I decided to head down to Crissy Field to get a picture of it.

I can't tell you much about it -- the ship is, apparently, the Pacific Venus, of the Venus Cruise Lines, which caters to Japanese speaking travelers. Their website doesn't even have an English section.

Still, I like getting pictures of stuff going under the bridge, plus I was able to catch it blowing off some steam.

Look CLOSELY...

Went down to Fort Point (at the base of the BOB), primarily to take pictures of the waves crossing up against the rocks.

I heard something, so I turned and started snapping pictures.

Now, if you look at the picture above closely, you can find what is in the closeup below.

The chopper went under the bridge, then swooped up and back over it.

Crazy, huh?

A nation mourns...

Had to cheat on this one. Blogger was having picture issues, and I was afraid I wouldn't get posted in time to make my "pic a day".

This is the flag on the Main Post of the Presidio. You can see the tops of the towers of BOB (The Big Orange Bridge, aka The Golden Gate Bridge) in the background.

The flag is at half mast (as are all other federal flags) because of the horrendous happenings in Virginia.

I whole heartedly support this gesture of national mourning, though I wonder, where is the period of mourning for all of the Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen, and Coasties killed in the line of duty in middle east? Regardless of how you might feel about the war, these men and women are heroes fallen in the service of the US, and we should NEVER forget their sacrifice.

At any rate, the sight made me tear up a little. I have a son in college, and Davis, CA just isn't all that far away from Blacksburg, VA.
