A composition with trees...
A clear day today, and I just started taking pictures whereever I was. This one I like particularly -- the trees fit together really nice in this composition.
By the way, this is my 365th post!!! That's right folks, I've officially been dumping my crap on you for a whole year. Can you believe it?
I'm not at all sure that I can -- this is the longest streak of doing anything daily that I've ever done (that didn't involve dying if I dropped the ball).

What happens when a truck backs into a fire hydrant
A truck driver backed into a fire hydrant right next to my office's window.

Now, that's a yellow hydrant, which according to this website represents a flow rate of at least 500 gallons per minute. It took almost 20 minutes to get the flow cut off, which means at least 10,000 gallons washed our parking lot and flowed to the bay.

The wall next to the spray is approximately 15 feet tall.

South San Francisco Light Tree
Here in South San Francisco, every year at Holiday time, the city puts a huge "strand of lights style" Christmas tree at the top of "Sign Hill".
Given its location, the tree can be seen from just about anywhere in South City and most of the environs south past the airport.

No oil here...
I was very worried that the oil from the container ship accident would come down as far as where we work. As you might know from previous entries, we have a pacific harbour seal that lives in that part of the bay (we call her "Heidi") and we were concerned that she would be affected by the oil.
As of now, as you can see, we don't seem to seeing any of the nasty guck.

Excitement in the neighborhood...
Taken by Caryn from an upstairs window, this was happening on the street just behind us.
They left after about 30 minutes, and we never smelled or saw any smoke, so we suspect it was out by the time they got there.
FYI, I have an immense respect for these professionals, and are glad we have them nearby.

Marine Layer Moving In
We've had a number of great sunny warm days here. In San Francisco, that almost always is followed by the onrush of fog, which we lovingly call Marine Layer.
For the next few days, it will be cooler and cloudier.
Oh yeah, there will be far fewer high performance jets performing spectacular stunts in the skies above the city -- fleet week is over until next year.

Little Lucca
The other day, my buddy Dan mentioned in his blog The Discourser that he and his daughter had visited a sandwich shop called "Little Lucca". That actually represented the 2nd mention of that place in a 3 day period, and I had never been there before, so I decided to try it today.
Wow
To start with, this place is basically an old house that looks like a good wind would flatten the place. That exterior belies the goodness inside.
I got the Little Lucca Combo. Mortadella, Salami and Provolone on a Dutch Crunch roll big enough to rate its own zip code. Add the requisite veggies, a little mayo, a little mustard, and the patented Little Lucca Garlic Sauce (banned in some countries due to the noxious nature of the breath of those who consume it).
I managed to get down half of it for lunch. I may never buy a sandwich in any other local restaurant ever again.

Sutro from a distance
Remember back on February 21st when I explained about Sutro Tower -- how you can see it from just about anywhere in the bay area?
Well here it is (poking up from the marine layer) from Oyster Point Marina in South San Francisco (just down from where I work). This is about 15 miles from the tower itself.
