Pacifica Sunset

Coming home from Yappy Hour, I stopped off at a bluff overlooking Pacifica and took several sunset pictures, including this one -- taken at EXACTLY 8:00pm.

Sun Dog ...

This is a phenomenom that I have always heard called a "Sun Dog". It is sorta like a rainbow, only it forms near sunset. There are always 2, equadistant from the setting sun.

I like this because the sundog beautifully illuminated the cloud. I also like the contrast between the foreground tree and the brilliantly lit sky.

Pacific Sunset / Steep Hill ...

This picture was taken just before sunset on a street in Pacifica.

This is a VERY steep street -- check out the sign that I'm standing next to:

Beach rock, plus, some movies...

Went down to Sharp Park beach in Pacifica to get some beach/waves pictures. Loved this rock and the way the water and foam swirled around it as it crashed into the shore.

I've been toying around with what I call "motor-drive movies". That is to say, I take a couple of dozen or more pictures with the motor-drive mode on my D70, then stitch them togther using iMovie on the Mac. The effect is a little like stop-action movies (which, technically, they are).

Here are a couple of them that I've done.

This first one is of the same rock as today's picture.

This one is one (again of waves) that I took when we went out to the Point Bonita lighthouse a couple of weeks ago.

And here is one that has a series of glacier calvings from our 2005 trip to Alaska's Hubbard Glacier.

Houses in Pacifica on a beautiful blue sky day...

Click for a larger version

This was taken from the parking lot of the elementary school where Caryn is having a crop today. I tried to take pictures of the view of the ocean from that spot (it is BREATHTAKING), and I will eventually get that shot in this blog, but it was just a tad hazy, so you'll just have to settle for this.

I like the contrasting color and the clarity of the shot. I like the way the eye is immediately drawn to the orange house near the center. I also like the way that the other orange house (near the bottom left hand corner) seems to be peeking out from its hiding spot and winking.
